In 1991, Rev. Esther W. Chege was ordained as a deacon then a woman’s guild member in Dagoretti Parish of the P.C.E.A (Presbyterian Church of East Africa) where she was also a Sunday school teacher. In 2000, she was ordained as an evangelist then a reverend. In the course of her community work she came across many children whose parents had succumbed to HIV/AIDS and the conditions of the environment under which they were living in, led her to organize the community around her village to reach the unreached in the community especially the children and people living with HIV/AIDS.
As a result of the above she started September 10 Rescue Center along with other founders. With the help of well wishers, September 10 Rescue Center was started alongside 16 members who contributed Kenya Shillings 500 (Five hundred only), (USD $ 7 seven dollars only) and 68 people living with HIV/AIDS who registered as members with Kenya shillings 20 (twenty shillings only), (USD $ 0.285 dollars only). All who are volunteers today? The idea to start a rescue center for the orphans and vulnerable children made her to come up with programs that will assist realizing her dream of the above.
