The idea to start a rescue center for the orphans and vulnerable children started way back in the 1987 when Rev. Esther W. Chege (The Founder and Project Director) met with Dr. & Mrs. Anderson from Minnesota International Health Volunteers (MIHV) from the U.S.A. She wanted to know more about MIHV and she became a member in 1988. She did the baseline survey in Dagoretti Constituency (Kenya), her village, and worked there as a community health worker (CHW) until 1990.
Thereafter she trained for project management with AMREF where she also learned about home based care for people living with HIV/AIDS, guiding and counseling. In the course of her community work she came across many children whose parents had succumbed to HIV/AIDS and the condition of the environment under which they were living in, led her to organize the community around Dagoretti to reach the unreached in the community especially the children and people living with HIV/AIDS. As a result September 10 Rescue Center was started.
September 10 Rescue Centre was formed as a Faith based organization ran on Christian principles and tenets started by the founders with the vision to assist children in the society who are needy and orphans especially those orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and need a helping hand so as to grow up to their full potential and become responsible adults with a means of livelihood, all in an atmosphere that imparts Christian principles and values.
The rescue center was registered with the government of Kenya on September 10 2002 but got its full Certificate Registration in August 2006 See Certificate
